Dr. Eugene M. Izhikevich

Dr. Eugene M. Izhikevich (Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO) is a computational neuroscientist known for his contributions into the theory of spiking networks. He pioneered a novel approach to spiking neurons that combined biologically plausibility and implementation efficiency, which allowed him in 2005 to simulate the largest thalamo-cortical model having the size of the human brain, i.e., the same number of neurons and synapses. Eugene founded Brain Corporation to build a biologically detailed spiking model of the mammalian visual system that could be implemented in a specialized silicon chip.

Dr. Eugene M. Izhikevich graduated from Moscow State University in 1992 (MS in Applied Mathematics) and Michigan State University (PhD in Pure Mathematics) in 1996.  He was a Senior Fellow in Theoretical Neurobiology at The Neurosciences Institute in San Diego until 2009. Dr. Izhikevich authored tens of peer-reviewed journal publications and two textbooks in computational neuroscience. He is the founder of Scholarpedia and the editor-in-chief of Encyclopedia of Computational Neuroscience and Encyclopedia of Dynamical Systems. (Academic webpage is at http://www.izhikevich.org)
